CAPTEK
Glossary of Terms

This glossary is intended to help you understand the terms used in the Captek technique.

CALIBRATION
The process of checking or determining the exact range of an instrument giving quantitative measurements. Calibration of the porcelain furnace is essential in producing Captek crowns. The furnace should be calibrated with pure gold since the processing temperature of Captek is close to the melting temperature of gold.

CAPBOND POWDER AND LIQUID
A powder and liquid which when mixed will provide a thin covering of gold material to enhance areas of Captek P that have been ground during adjustment. Application of Capbond will ensure a gold color consistent with areas that have not been ground.

CAPBOND MIXING JAR
A small jar with clear lid for mixing Capbond powder and Capbond liquid.

CAPCON LIQUID AND POWDER
A powder that is alloyed with gold, platinum and palladium. When mixed with its own special liquid and applied to areas between pontics and abutments as well as pontic surface areas it provides the same base material structure as Captek P. Capcon absorbs, through capillary attraction, the Capfil material in the same way Captek G is absorbed into Captek P, producing a gold connecting area that enhances the color of the pontic surface. Capcon is also used to enhance the buccal or labial pontic areas of Captek preformed pontics.

CAPCON MIXING DISH
A small dish with 2 wells; one for Capcon powder and one for Capcon liquid.

CAPFIL
Strips of gold alloy that join with Capcon to produce a strong gold alloy for connections in bridgework or for use in repairing Captek crowns.

CAPSIL
A highly accurate silicone duplicating material. It is used to create a mold into which refractory material (Capvest) can be poured to create refractory dies used in the Captek technique

CAPSIL RELIEF
A liquid that, when sprayed onto stone dies or a Capsil mold, reduces surface tension allowing Capsil or Capvest to flow freely, reducing bubbles and imperfections.

CAPTEK

A new technology employing the principle of capillary attraction to produce a gold composite metal alloy.

CAPTEK ADHESIVE
A liquid adhesive that is applied to Capvest refractory dies which aids the adhesion of Captek material to the die. It also enhances capillary attraction.

CAPTEK CALIBRATION GOLD
Gold strips which melt at 1970°f ( 1077°), enabling the user to accurately calibrate porcelain furnaces used in the Captek technique.

CAPTEK CAPILLARY ATTRACTION
The process of creating a composite alloy by chemically bonding two different materials through a network of capillaries producing a precision ceramo-metal casting.

CAPTEK G
A highly malleable gold material that is applied over Captek P. When processed, Captek G forms a composite high gold metal alloy through capillary attraction.

CAPTEK ADAPTING INSTRUMENT
An instrument with special tips that is used in applying Captek material. One end has a flat angle tip, the other end is rounded. Both are used to adapt, burnish and smooth Captek P and G materials.

CAPTEK P
A highly malleable gold, platinum and palladium alloy. When processed, it provides a three dimensional network of capillaries that will be filled by Captek G material forming a composite high gold metal alloy.

CAPTEK PONTIC WAX

A soft wax used to aid in the placement of Captek pontics prior to luting with sticky wax.

CAPTEK PONTICS
Specially designed pontics that are pre-cast in a ceramic alloy, and plated with pure gold.

CAPTEK REPAIR PASTE
A stable special paste mixture of gold, platinum and palladium alloy used to create the base metal structure for repairs or additions to Captek crowns. After processing, Capfil is used to create the high gold composite alloy for porcelain application.

CAPTEK SOLDERING INVESTMENT
Refractory soldering investment used in the construction of multiple unit bridgework.

CAPTEK TRIMMINGS MOLD
A mold containing three different size forms used in adapting Captek P trimmings to form lingual collars and studs for Captek.

CAPVEST
A refractory investment material specially formulated to provide accurate duplicate models and dies used to fabricate Captek restorations.

PURGE
The elimination of metal oxides and contaminates in porcelain furnaces by firing carbon, under vacuum, to 1925°(1050°c) for 10 minutes. This step is necessary if the furnace is used to fire alloys other than Captek.

REFRACTORY
A material which is designed to be stable under high temperatures and is used in the fabrication of Captek restorations.

TRIMMINGS
Excess pieces of Captek P or Captek G material which can be reused to create lingual collars, studs or to fill in small areas of Captek crowns.
